What Does It Mean to Feel More Grounded?

You may often hear the word “grounding” in conversations about meditation, Reiki, energy healing, and wellbeing.

But what does it actually mean?

Grounding can simply mean returning your attention to the present moment.

When our thoughts are constantly moving toward what happened yesterday or what needs to happen tomorrow, it can become difficult to feel connected to what is happening right now.

A grounding practice does not need to be complicated.

You might place both feet firmly on the floor and notice the sensation beneath them.

Take a slow breath and pay attention to the movement of your body.

Step outside and notice the temperature of the air.

Listen carefully to the sounds around you.

Hold something natural—a stone, flower, leaf, or piece of wood—and notice its texture.

These small actions can help bring your awareness away from mental noise and toward your immediate experience.

During an energy healing session, there may also be opportunities for quiet, rest, and greater awareness of your body and inner state.

There is no correct experience to have. The intention is not to force yourself into a particular feeling, but to create space to notice what is present.

Try this one-minute grounding practice:

Place both feet on the floor.

Relax your shoulders.

Take one comfortable, unforced breath.

Notice three things you can see.

Notice two things you can hear.

Notice one physical sensation in your body.

Stay there for a few moments.

That is enough.
